Eligible carpool groups are vehicles with 2 or more people with a valid yearly or semester parking pass.
Located close to building entrances, the spots are meant to encourage the Loyalist community to drive together when possible to reduce our collective transportation footprint and reduce parking congestion.
How it works
Loyalist’s Kente campus is currently home to 24 designated carpool parking spots.
- Each day, the first 24 carpool groups (vehicles with 2 or more people) that register with the Front Gate will be given one day carpooling parking privileges.
- Your 4-digit Permit Number will be recorded allowing Security to verify that only registered groups are occupying the designated spots. Your privileges are valid for one day only.
- A sign will be posted at the Front Gate letting drivers know if any carpool spots remain and the location of open carpooling locations.
Loyalist will be trialing this program beginning Monday, September 14 until the end of December. During the pilot, we will monitor program uptake. Once the pilot is complete, we will evaluate the program and seek feedback from the campus community to determine if improvements can be made.
Carpooling on the rise!
Since the changes to the carpooling program took effect in September, we have seen a dramatic rise in the number of carpooling spots filled each week. Use of carpooling spots in P6, for instance, has steadily grown from 30% in Week 1 to 70% in Week 4. And it’s mostly thanks to you! Over 90% of carpool groups are students.
Each day, the first 24 carpool groups that register with the Front Gate are given one day carpool parking privileges. If you’re driving to campus with one or more passengers and have a valid annual or semester parking pass, be sure to take advantage of these prime parking spots. We will continue to monitor program uptake and welcome feedback from staff and students. Thanks to Amy Farrow and the Facilities Advisory Committee for this great initiative.
